Term 1 - Environmental Sustainability

During term 1 we will focus on basic geography literacy skills: The understanding of human and natural systems, geographic reasoning, and systematic decision-making. Project for Term 1 will be 'Map Your World' -- Videos will be due by Student Led Conference and Final Project will be due before the end of the term.

10 Second Video Assignment

This is a multipurpose project: to help us get to know each other, to pre-assess your video skills, and to help you think creatively. Students will be completing a self-reflection rubric.

Mapping Assignments

These assignments will help students understand the world in spacial terms and analyze the world around them.

Physical Geography

Students will analyze and explain human and physical systems and how they interact. In this section students will learn about the sun-earth relationship and data collection strategies: Climate Graphs, Population Pyramids, Pioneer Library tools, and data analysis.

Agriculture Development Links

"A Long walk to water"

Students will explore a dual perspective of the Sudanese Civil War and the impact on the youth, as well as the importance of water and global water issues. "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park is based on a true story. Each class will have 1 week to read the book.

Map your World Project

Students will apply 21st Century and Geographic Literacy skills to complete this project. Working in groups students will map and identify issues in their community (local/global) to become change agents. Map it! Track it! Change it! Share it!
