What we did: 
Day 1: Review Vocabulary and Background guide for the film "Gandhi" & Start watching "Gandhi"
Day 2 - 4:  Watch "Gandhi" and complete the Gandhi Packet. 

“Gandhi” has many concepts and elements that we will be referencing for the rest of the school year; civil disobedience, imperialism/colonialism, the relationship between Islam and Hinduism, Pakistan and India. Before beginning the film we will go over vocabulary to give students some addition background knowledge so that they will be able to better understand the context.

New project assignment: The Roman Kent Peace Project
Roman Kent Peace Project |  Due: February 16th. 
Holocaust Survivor Roman Kent talks to youth at the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of AuschwitzCelebration in 2015. 
Inspired by Holocaust Survivor Roman Kent and the Fulbright Japan-US Teacher Exchange on Sustainability. Students are assigned a project to do one thing to make their world a better place.
  1. Watch Roman Kent's Speech at the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz: "Auschwitz survivor Roman Kent: "We don't want our past to be our children's future"
  2. Take notes: Write down statements that stand out to you. What is Roman Kent's vision for your future?
  3. Assignment: How will you fulfill Roman Kent's vision for your future?
  4. For the next 2 weeks do something to answer the question, help change someone's world. This can be for yourself (Non-violence journal) or for someone else. 
  5. You must have an artifact of your project. Journal, pictures, video, etc. 

Book Report Due
​Book for Term 3: "When My Name was Keoko" By Linda Sue Park [Due Feb. 1st for double points, Final Due Date: March 1, 2018] - The book can be checked out from the Media Center (Library) and the report is from your English Teacher.
